DCJ Presides Over ICAMEK Launch

The Deputy Chief Justice, Hon. Justice Richard Buteera, presided over the launch of the International Centre for Arbitration and Mediation in Kampala (ICAMEK) at a function held at Protea Hotel.
The Centre is an independent, not-for-profit organization, dedicated to advancing Alternative Dispute Resolution in Uganda and across East Africa.
The Deputy Chief Justice said the Judiciary appreciates that the economic growth of Uganda is dependent on quick resolution and disposal of disputes.
ICAMEK is a response to the Judiciary policy recommendation to use innovations such as ADR to minimize case backlog. As a result, the number of members becoming chartered arbitrators is growing.
Mr Francis Gimara, an ICAMEK board member, in his presentation on behalf of the Board chairperson said the Centre’s Strategic Plan 2020/2023ICAMEK intended to meet the growing appetite for amicable resolution of business disputes through mediation and arbitration.
The launch was witnessed by the Deputy Attorney General, Mr. Jackson Kafuuzi and the Executive Director of Private Sector Foundation Uganda, Mr Gideon Badagawa among other dignitaries.
